Corporate Sponsorship Renewal Letter

Hi [NAME],

I and the OSI Board of Directors would like to thank you and [COMPANY] for your ongoing support of the Open Source Initiative. Your generous support throughout 2018 has helped make  this year one of our most impactful. We hope we can count on [COMPANY]’s support for 2019.

With 2018 marking the 20th anniversary of open source, this year has been particularly exciting with celebrations around the globe, including LinuxConf Australia, FOSDEM, Campus Party, FOSSAsia, OpenExpo Europe, OW2con, FOSS Backstage, OSCON, and Open Source Summit.  You can find a brief overview of our “Anniversary World Tour” here:

While our anniversary events provide fantastic opportunities to celebrate the success of open source and reconnect with the global open source community, 2018 also presented several challenges.

  • [EXAMPLE 1] Affirming/defending the Open Source Definition as an international standard, combating fauxpen source software, and confronting open-washing.
  • [EXAMPLE 2] Reinforcing open source business models that align with open source values.
  • [EXAMPLE 3] Promoting best practices in development and community through transparency and collaboration.
  • [EXAMPLE 4] Advocating open source curricula within K12 and higher education throughout the world.

We often say, “we simply cannot support the open source community, without the support of the open source community.” I would be very happy to arrange a call to update you about our work and upcoming opportunities.

Thank you again, and hope to talk soon,

Nick

P.S.: We’d also like share some exciting news about our 20th Anniversary closing ceremony--the Open Source Exhibit--taking place at the Computer History Museum in Palo Alto, CA on February 16, 2019. We’re inviting our corporate sponsors, individual and affiliate members, board alumni, and several special guests to share their open source success stories. Confirmed guests include Bruce Perens and Christine Peterson. More information coming soon!
