ENGINEERING GROUP BECOMES AN OPEN SOURCE INITIATIVE CORPORATE SPONSOR
Engineering Group confirms its support for global open source communities and contributes to OSI’s growth

Sept. 11, 2014 - PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Engineering Group, a founding member of the OW2 Consortium (www.ow2.org) and an associate member of Eclipse Foundation (www.eclipse.org), announced today its corporate sponsorship of the Open Source Initiative (www.opensource.org). Founded in 1998, the Open Source Initiative protects and promotes open source by providing a foundation for community success. It champions open source in society through education, infrastructure and collaboration. In 2011, the OSI created a process for wider participation initiating an affiliate program, launching an individual membership program and encouraging corporate sponsorship.

Engineering Group, which has an Open Source Competency Center that ten years ago founded the SpagoWorld initiative, leads the SpagoBI project, an internationally-recognized, completely open source, business intelligence suite. This is the result of the competence, commitment and creativity of its software engineers in combination with the open active cooperation of the Engineering Group with the main global open source communities, based on a win-win approach.

According to these values, Engineering Group decided to take part in OSI’s initiative for wider participation, which will influence its thinking, enriching its future mission. The expansion of the OSI base can give open source developers, users and vendors a direct role in its mission of open source education, infrastructure and collaboration – fostering the increasingly irreversible adoption of open source.

“It is only through the generous contributions of organizations like the Engineering Group that the OSI can advance its mission to raise awareness and adoption of open source software and build bridges between open source communities" said Patrick Masson, general manager of the Open Source Initiative. Open source community members worldwide and everyone willing to take a stand for open source are invited to join OSI now at opensource.org/join and help shape the future of open source.
