Use case...

After the OSI elections several of those who ran expressed an interest in volunteering to further the OSI's mission, develop programs, etc. This exchange with Casey Valkhighlights the opportunity:

Congrats to the winners!  If there is anything I can do on a volunteer basis outside of the board, or otherwise as applicable, please let me know.

Hi Casey,

First, thank you again for running for the board.

Interestingly, just before your email, Allison Randal had sent out a
note suggesting we should think of some way to take advantage of the
good will and expertise of all those who ran for the election (and even
our Board alumni).

I'm wondering (hoping), would you be interested in volunteering to
organize the volunteers? Not sure how it might all work, but maybe
that's the first output?

What do you think?

Thanks,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Of course - glad to help where I can.  I think Allison's email is spot-on; such a talented group of candidates with varied backgrounds that it would be a shame not to capitalize on that.

I suggest sending out a group email asking for those interested to respond back.  May want to have a Board  Member (or?) put together a draft volunteers charter of sorts to help set the expectations for volunteers vs. Board Members too.  Maybe establish focus areas (subgroups eventually) - for example - my area of focus/expertise is on the legal/contracts side to keep folks interested.    I'm sure there are wide variety of interests that there will be sinetgingfur everyone, staying within the goals of OSI.

Thanks!
Casey
